On 24 June 2025, more than 70 participants joined the second public vera.ai webinar in which project npartners presented key research outcomes and technological advancements developed over the past three years. The sessions were geared towards researchers and professionals, focussing on the cutting-edge AI models and methodologies that power the verification tools offered by vera.ai. Here's a recap of the event, including access to related materials.

Here it is: the recording of our exclusive webinar that was hosted on 17 June 2025 - making it part of the ultimate vera.ai video series. Its aim: to present some of the project outcomes and results to date, focussing on tools and services for fact-checkers, journalists, investigators and other practitioners active in countering disinformation. 

On 17 June 2025 we hosted the first session in which we presented project outcomes. It primarily targeted practitioners, such as journalists, fact-checkers, investigators and anyone interested in hands-on advice and solutions. Over 100 people attend the webinar. vera.ai partner University of Urbino permanently monitors, detects, and iteratively updates lists of coordinated social media accounts by analyzing behavioral patterns and interaction metrics. In the process, team members uncovered a significant disinformation campaign on Facebook pertaining to Pope Francis’ health. Here's what the they found. 

On 11 February 2025, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) hosted the 5th edition of the webinar series in which selected vera.ai work and outcomes are presented. vera.ai's project partners CERTH, USFD and Ontotext presented advances in synthetic content detection, textual analysis and narrative exploration at the Sofia Information Integrity Forum (SIIF), held from 7–9 November 2024 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Here's a summary of their contributions, plus insights into work done, including results to date as well as approaches and challenges.

Here's a webinar recording of a session that took place on 11 September 2024, organised by the EBU. It features Symeon Papadopoulos (CERTH) and Luisa Verdoliva (University Federico II of Naples), who explain the advances, tools and challenges of synthetic image detection – a technology that tackles one of the biggest challenges in fact-checking, namely the proliferation of AI-generated or AI-modified images. On 14 September 2024, vera.ai completed its second project year. Reason enough for Ontotext's Nedelina Mitankina to look back on a year of activities, as well as look ahead at what is to come. In her contribution, Nedelina portrays in particular the work carried out in relation to the so-called Database of Known Fakes that can support factcheckers and verification experts alike. In focus in particular: entity linking and event extraction.

This article outlines how automated fact-checking (AFC) is being developed and progresses in order to support with verification tasks that, manually, take up a lot of time. Furthermore, manual fact-checking usually can not keep up with the quick spread of false information. That is why researchers and journalists / fact-checkers need to collaborate.
