What: International Journalism Festival
When: 19-23 April 2023
Where: Perugia, Italy
What's it all about?
The International Journalism Festival is one of the primary events in the world in which the journalism and media community come together and discuss a great variety of aspects related to the past, present and future of the industry. It is hosted in various (mostly very impressive) places in the Umbrian city of Perugia, located sort of half way between Florence and Rome.
2023 sees the Festival’s 17th edition. Attendance is totally free. Sessions are mainly in Italian on Wednesday and Sunday, with English-language sessions taking place from Thursday to Saturday.
Attendees have more than enough to choose from, with about seven sessions running in parallel most of the time. (Full programme here).
Why are we there?
I (Jochen Spangenberg, the author of this piece) will be there from Thursday to Saturday to find out what the pressing topics are that move and shake the industry at present. Especially, I plan to network and meet old and new friends and colleagues to discuss the state of affairs and inform them about what we do in vera.ai. Further, the plan is to talk to experts and attend sessions in the field disinformation detection, verification and Artificial Intelligence. Expect the odd article and tweets from my encounters.
If you are going as well and would like to meet up, please get in touch. You can reach me via Twitter (@jospang) or mail (jochen.spangenberg {at} dw.com).
